Lexington runners perform well at the Ashland Cross Country Invitational

Richland County cross country teams competed at the Ashland Cross Country Invitational at Freer Field on Saturday, Sept. 5. The Lexington girls team secured a third-place finish with 101 points, led by Gabi Twedt’s third-place individual finish in 19:27.7. The Lexington boys team claimed fifth place with 144 points, paced by a second-place run from Will Hooper at 16:24.0. Shelby girls finished fifth with 160 points, while Ontario placed 15th with 365 points. This meet marked the first local competition of the 2026 season for these programs following the cancellation of the OHSAA Preseason Cross Country Invitational. Teams are now adjusting to new rosters, including Lexington adjusting to the departure of several seniors from last year’s Division II state championship squad.
