Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens intends to loan out 21-year-old goalkeeper Noah Phillips to ensure he gains consistent first-team experience. Phillips appeared in five matches across all competitions this season, including two successful penalty shoot-outs and three League One appearances while deputizing for an injured Nathan Baxter. Although Phillips kept two clean sheets during his recent tenure, Wellens stated that Baxter and new loan signing Oliver Dovin are currently viewed as the finished articles for the squad. Phillips was omitted from the matchday squad entirely for Saturday's 1-1 draw against Luton. Wellens described the decision as difficult but necessary for the goalkeeper's long-term development. The manager expects that regular minutes elsewhere will prepare Phillips to eventually claim the starting role at Leyton Orient within the next 18 months.
