Liberty travels to face James Madison for season opener

Liberty kicks off its 54th football season this Saturday at noon, traveling to Harrisonburg to face James Madison in the second installment of the Battle of the Blue Ridge. The matchup marks the 20th all-time meeting between the two programs. James Madison enters the contest leading the all-time series 13-6, following a 31-13 victory against the Flames at Williams Stadium on Sept. 20, 2025. Liberty previously secured a 26-21 victory during its last visit to Harrisonburg in the 2014 FCS Playoffs. Historically, Liberty has experienced success in season-opening games, winning its last six consecutive openers and eight of its previous nine.
