Lions QB Luke Altmyer shows promise in preseason debut against Bengals
Summary

Detroit Lions quarterback Luke Altmyer had a notable performance in his NFL debut during the team's first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals on August 13, 2026. Despite the Lions losing 16-14, Altmyer showed potential by taking most of the snaps and demonstrating decisiveness early on. However, he also experienced some inexperience that led to costly mistakes, including a turnover that allowed the Bengals to score. Following a recent roster shakeup, Altmyer now has an opportunity to secure a spot on the 53-man roster, though he must improve on fundamentals. The Lions will continue to evaluate his performance throughout the preseason.
