Liverpool enters race to sign AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit

Summary

Liverpool is reportedly competing to sign 20-year-old midfielder Kees Smit from AZ Alkmaar. Interest from Newcastle United has waned, creating an opportunity for Liverpool as they look to strengthen their midfield. Smit has gained recognition for his impressive performance metrics in the Eredivisie, making him an attractive option for Premier League clubs. His all-around abilities on the pitch align with Liverpool's recent recruitment strategy. The situation could evolve rapidly as the transfer window progresses, especially if Liverpool formalizes their interest.
