Longtime New Mexico parking attendants Mike and Yolanda Sanchez face health struggles

Mike and Yolanda Sanchez, fixtures at University of New Mexico athletic events for nearly 30 years, are currently sidelined due to serious health issues. Yolanda Sanchez was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2024 and underwent surgery, while Mike Sanchez received a stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis following his final shift at a professional bull riding event in April. Known for greeting attendees at the Pit and various Albuquerque sporting venues, the couple built long-standing relationships with coaches, athletes, and fans. Myra, the couple’s daughter, has assisted in covering the parking duties during recent Lobo basketball seasons. Despite their current inability to work, both remain focused on recovery as they hope to return to their post at the Albuquerque parking facility.
