Lorelei Schmidt, 17, prepares for English Channel swim next month

Seventeen-year-old Lorelei Schmidt is preparing to attempt a swim across the English Channel on August 4. Hailing from Triangle, Schmidt has previously completed both the Catalina Channel and the 20 Bridges Swim around Manhattan Island. She began her open-water swimming journey during the COVID-19 pandemic, finding the challenge of unpredictable conditions rewarding.
