Los Angeles Sparks waive former Hawkeye Kate Martin from roster

The Los Angeles Sparks waived Kate Martin on August 29 after she spent most of the 2026 WNBA season with the team. This is the second time Martin has been waived this season, following her release from the Golden State Valkyries in May. She had signed a player development contract with the Sparks, which was upgraded to a standard contract in June, but her playing time decreased under the new agreement. Martin averaged 2.3 points and 1.1 rebounds across 17 games with Los Angeles. Her future in the WNBA is uncertain as she looks to join another franchise before the regular season ends amidst the league's break for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.
