Loyal/Greenwood football team forfeits win following eligibility error

The Loyal/Greenwood football team must forfeit its 41-7 victory over Neillsville/Granton from last Friday. School officials reported an eligibility violation to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association after discovering a player participated in the game despite not completing a required three-game suspension. Assistant coach Greisen stated the staff mistakenly believed the player had served the mandated time after sitting out one game. The WIAA responded to the self-reported error by imposing the forfeit and a one-year probation period on the football program. District representatives characterized the oversight as a communication error and confirmed the team will continue its season as scheduled. The team is next slated for a road game against Auburndale on Friday, Sept. 4.
