LSU defeats Clemson 51-10 in college football season opener

No. 11 LSU defeated Clemson 51-10 on Saturday night after a two-hour lightning delay pushed kickoff to 9:40 p.m. ET. LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt led the offense with 346 total yards and contributed to a 644-yard team performance. Clemson, managed by Dabo Swinney, finished with 145 total yards and only eight first downs throughout the game. The game began with Clemson scoring a field goal to take an early 3-0 lead following an interception, but LSU responded by scoring 51 points to finish the victory. LSU converted 11 of 16 third-down attempts, while the defense held Clemson to a 1-for-13 conversion rate. Winston Watkins Jr. paced the LSU receiving corps with seven catches for 110 yards and a touchdown.
