Luciano Mayer led the Waldwick/Midland Park football team to a 35-34 overtime victory over Garfield in the NJIC Tournament final on October 23. Mayer scored three touchdowns, including the crucial go-ahead score in overtime, as the team completed a comeback from a 21-7 deficit. This championship marks the first tournament title for the co-op, which combines players from the two neighboring high schools. Mayer's performance helped him set a new program record for single-season rushing touchdowns with 23. The team now prepares for the NJIC semifinals against Wood-Ridge.
