Luis Contreras announces retirement from baseball, transitions to coaching

Luis Contreras, formerly of the Houston Astros, has announced his retirement from professional baseball in an Instagram post dated July 26. Over an eight-year career, he made 14 appearances with the Astros in his last two seasons but finished with a 0-0 record and a 7.50 ERA. Contreras expressed his desire to transition into coaching, intending to share his knowledge with the next generation. He began his career with the Chicago Cubs in 2015 and had stints in minor league baseball before joining the Astros last season. Despite some success, including a brief scoreless run, he faced challenges at the Major League level and was designated for assignment in August 2025. Contreras did not sign with a new team after his time with the Astros.
