Luis Rengifo suffers season-ending knee injury and Willy Adames remains sidelined

San Diego Padres third baseman Luis Rengifo will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL and MCL. The injury occurred during the seventh inning of an August 29 game against the Tampa Bay Rays while Rengifo attempted a throw to home plate. The Padres are currently competing for a National League wild-card position, trailing Arizona by a half-game entering the week. Elsewhere, San Francisco Giants shortstop Willy Adames faces a potentially season-ending recovery from a left elbow strain. Adames, who previously played for the Milwaukee Brewers, has struggled to a.713 OPS this season and recently received a platelet-rich plasma injection. The Giants, sitting with a 56-81 record, remain outside of playoff contention as the season approaches its final month.
