Luis Severino unlikely to return for Athletics this season

Summary

Luis Severino's season with the Oakland Athletics is in jeopardy as manager Mark Kotsay indicated that he will not be back before the season ends. Severino is currently throwing at 75 feet and would need to complete a full spring training program, which typically lasts six weeks. The Athletics have about that much time left in the season. Severino has a 4.16 ERA over 62 ⅔ innings this year and holds a player option for next season valued at $22 million. As the A's consider potential offseason moves, the status of Severino becomes a factor in their plans.
