Luke Pettitte starts Yankees career in Low-A Tampa

Luke Pettitte, drafted by the Yankees in the eighth round out of Dallas Baptist University, kicks off his professional career in Low-A Tampa. The son of former Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, Luke was selected despite undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2025, which limited his pitching appearances. Over the past season, he primarily acted as a designated hitter, achieving a.337 batting average and 16 home runs in 42 games. Yankees scouting director Damon Oppenheimer indicated that the organization is committed to developing Pettitte as both a hitter and pitcher, pending his recovery and performance. Pettitte celebrates signing with the Yankees on July 21 and is set to begin at-bats this summer in Tampa.
