Mainland lineman Chevin Davis suspended for upcoming Nease game

Mainland offensive lineman Chevin Davis will miss the school's upcoming football game against Nease on Sept. 4. The Florida High School Athletic Association denied an appeal regarding his suspension on Sept. 2. Davis was ejected during the Aug. 21 season opener against Carol City following a physical altercation involving quarterback PJ Miller. Mainland head coach Jerrime Bell stated the suspension originated from a disputed official report that cited an open-hand slap, whereas team video evidence suggested a chest-to-chest bump. The FHSAA committee upheld the ruling after reviewing evidence presented by athletic director Terry Anthony. Davis, Williams, and two other players were removed from the initial contest due to the incident.
