Málaga returns to First Division after playoff victory over Almería

Summary

Málaga CF secured promotion to the First Division, defeating Almería 2-1 in the second leg of the playoff final on June 20, 2026. Goals from Chupe and Larrubia decided the match, which was tense from the start, partly due to incidents involving the visiting team's bus. The victory marks the end of an eight-year absence from the top flight for Málaga, who faced relegation in the 2017-18 season and subsequently fell to lower divisions. The team will soon learn its schedule for the 2025-26 First Division season as it looks to construct a competitive squad.
