Manchester City defeats Birmingham City in opening Women's Super League match

Manchester City opened its Barclays Women’s Super League campaign with a 3-1 victory over Birmingham City at The Joie Stadium. Khadija Shaw scored twice for the home side, with Mary Fowler also finding the net to secure three points. Birmingham City provided a late response when Océane Hurtré scored a stoppage-time consolation goal.
