Manchester United targets Mateus Fernandes for midfield reinforcement this summer

Manchester United is focused on strengthening its midfield ahead of the summer transfer window. Reports indicate that they have agreed to sign Ederson from Atalanta for €45 million, but further improvements are planned. The potential departure of Casemiro and underwhelming performances by Mason Mount and Manuel Ugarte have intensified these efforts. Among the midfield targets, Mateus Fernandes of West Ham United is favored over Carlos Baleba from Brighton. Fernandes, a versatile player capable of covering multiple midfield roles, is seen as a more suitable fit for manager Michael Carrick’s tactical system. Both players were under consideration, but Fernandes' ability to contribute creatively could enhance United’s attacking options.
