The Toronto Maple Leafs are assessing how to integrate rookie Gavin McKenna into their lineup as they prepare for the 2026-27 NHL season. McKenna is considered an elite addition, but the team must decide whether to place him alongside star Auston Matthews or further down the lineup. Some analysts argue that a top-line role may be too intense for him at this stage, suggesting a third-line position with more defensively responsible players like Teddy Blueger or Colton Sissons could facilitate his development. Training camp will play a crucial role in determining McKenna's placement ahead of the team's season opener.
