Maple Leafs pursue free agent Patrik Laine in contract discussions

Summary

The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly pursuing unrestricted free agent winger Patrik Laine, a former No. 2 overall draft pick. Toronto's interest aligns with their need for scoring depth after missing the playoffs last season. Laine, who had a four-year, $34.8 million contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets, is looking for a new deal after limited play due to injuries. His performance on the power play, combined with a one-time shot capability, could add significant offensive firepower to the team. The Maple Leafs will weigh Laine’s medical clearance and contract terms as they navigate a tight salary cap situation.
