Marcus Mariota ranked 18th among NFL backup quarterbacks

Summary

Marcus Mariota of the Washington Commanders has been ranked 18th among NFL backup quarterbacks by an analyst from Sports Illustrated. Despite a solid career including playoff experience, Mariota is considered underrated, particularly in comparison to other backups. He has signed a one-year deal worth $8 million to continue as Jayden Daniels' backup for the upcoming season. Analysts have expressed concerns over his ranking, particularly given that he performed well at times amid a challenging 2025 season filled with injuries. Some NFL analysts argue that more respect is due to Mariota based on his experience and contributions.
