Maresca implements zonal pressing tactic at Manchester City

Summary

Enzo Maresca has introduced significant tactical changes at Manchester City, focusing on a zonal press during pre-season. Unlike his previous man-to-man approach at Chelsea, City now defends high up the pitch with a formation resembling 4-2-4. This change aims to adapt to opponents more accustomed to man-to-man strategies. Players' collective understanding of the new system remains a work in progress as they approach the start of the competitive season.

What they're saying

"
Out of possession is where we have seen the biggest changes from Enzo Maresca compared to his time at Stamford Bridge. At Chelsea, Maresca mainly used a man-to-man press high up the pitch. In pre-season we have seen Manchester City defend high up the pitch but in a more zonal fashion - something they did last season under Pep Guardiola.
