Marshall travels to Happy Valley this weekend to face Penn State in a non-conference college football game. The Thundering Herd enter the matchup under first-year head coach Tony Gibson, who previously led the team through a roster transition. Former coach Charles Huff departed the program for Southern Miss last season, necessitating a rebuilding period that included significant changes to the defensive staff. Marshall recently hired Brad Lambert as defensive coordinator to address defensive performance from the previous year. Players including quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson, tight end Toby Payne, and linemen Jalen Slappy and Tariq Montgomery are expected to play key roles for the Marshall offense. On defense, safety Daytione Smith will lead the unit as the team aims for bowl eligibility this season.
