Maryland basketball adds point guard Payton Jones to 2027 recruiting class

The Maryland Terrapins have secured their first commitment for the class of 2027 with point guard Payton Jones. The Texas native and top-60 prospect plans to join the program for the 2027-28 season after finishing his high school career at Dynamic Prep. Jones cited his long-standing relationship with the Maryland coaching staff as a primary factor in his decision to commit. The Terrapins are currently working to rebuild their roster under head coach Buzz Williams following a 12-21 campaign. Beyond the recruitment of the 2027 class, the program has recently added six transfer portal players and four incoming freshmen to the active roster. Maryland continues to recruit other prospects including Antonio Pemberton, Nasir Anderson, and AJ Williams.
