Mason Appleton underperforms in Red Wings' report card for 2025-26

In a recent report card on Detroit Red Wings forward Mason Appleton, the analysis reflects a disappointing first season with the team. Entering the second year of a two-year, $5.8 million contract, Appleton recorded just 14 points in 65 games, significantly below expectations. Although the Red Wings' penalty kill showed improvement, Appleton's own performance was hampered by injuries and underwhelming offensive contributions. He found himself as a healthy scratch multiple times, and there are concerns that his role could diminish further with the emergence of younger players like Carter Mazur. His future with the team may depend on his ability to improve in the upcoming season.
