Mateo Kovacic stated that Manchester City "count on me" despite recent transfer speculation linking him to Serie A clubs Juventus and Inter Milan. The midfielder, entering the final year of his contract, played only nine matches last season due to injuries. New manager Enzo Maresca expressed support for Kovacic but was noncommittal about his future in recent comments. Kovacic played 45 minutes in a friendly against Inter on Saturday and may have an opportunity for more playing time, especially with Spain's Rodri recovering from back surgery. Elliott Anderson, City's recent signing, is also set to compete for a midfield spot.
