Matt Griego-Ortega returns to boxing after two-year hiatus in Albuquerque

Undefeated boxer Matt Griego-Ortega plans to end his two-year ring absence on October 3 at Expo New Mexico. The 30-year-old fighter, who holds a 15-0 record with 10 knockouts, will headline the debut card of Prime Time Promotions. Griego-Ortega has remained inactive since August 2024, when he defeated Gilberto Mendoza while fighting with a fractured right hand. The Albuquerque native previously struggled with injuries and failed fight opportunities that nearly prompted him to retire from the sport. Following his upcoming bout, he plans to announce an out-of-state promotional deal that he anticipates will provide his career with necessary national exposure. He is moving from his previous weight classes to compete at the 118-pound bantamweight limit for this return.
