Mauricio Pochettino calls for Tottenham to receive 2016-17 Premier League title

USA head coach Mauricio Pochettino claims his former Tottenham side should be retroactively awarded the 2016-17 Premier League title. Pochettino argues that Chelsea, who finished seven points ahead of Tottenham that season, should be stripped of the trophy due to historical financial breaches. Chelsea was fined £10.75 million in March following an investigation into undisclosed payments made to agents and third parties between 2011 and 2018. The potential irregularities came to light after the club self-reported the findings following the 2022 Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital takeover. Pochettino stated that because Chelsea admitted to breaking league rules, the title should be reallocated to the runner-up. He noted that the financial advantages gained by Chelsea during that period prevented fair competition among other clubs.
