Max Beattie prepares for finals clash against former suitor Fremantle

Max Beattie will line up for Hawthorn in Thursday night's qualifying final at Optus Stadium against Fremantle. The 22-year-old previously trialled with the Fremantle squad during the 2024 pre-season supplemental selection period but was passed over in favor of Pat Voss. Following a return to the SANFL and a subsequent syndesmosis injury, Beattie was selected by Hawthorn with pick No. 12 in the 2026 Mid-Season Rookie Draft. He has made two appearances for the Hawks since joining the club and secured a one-year contract extension this week. Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell noted that Beattie has handled the transition to the AFL level with composure. The upcoming qualifying final marks the third AFL match of Beattie's career.
