Max Fried is set to pitch for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday night as he begins a rehab assignment. The left-hander is recovering from a left elbow bone bruise sustained on May 16 and will throw just over 50 pitches. Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated that Fried will require at least one more rehab start before a potential activation. In addition to Fried, Carlos Rodón is also on the injured list, leaving the Yankees with limited rotation options for their upcoming series against the Dodgers. The team plans to start Gerrit Cole, Ryan Weathers, and Cam Schlittler in the initial games, with Will Warren slated to follow against the Pirates. The Yankees are considering external options for pitching reinforcement before the August 3 trade deadline.
