Mayor responds to Patrick Beverley's comments about Camden safety

Former NBA player Patrick Beverley made remarks about Camden's safety during a podcast, joking about potential reactions if LeBron James arrived by helicopter. Camden Mayor Vic Carstarphen criticized Beverley's comments, stating they disrespected the city's residents. He invited Beverley to visit Camden and learn about its positive changes, highlighting a significant decline in crime rates since 2012. The city saw 12 homicides in 2025, a notable drop compared to past years. Carstarphen, a former basketball player himself, emphasized the need for respect towards Camden's hardworking families.
