The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced it will become the first NCAA Division I conference to hold a women's flag football championship, set for 2027. The MEAC will introduce women's flag football as a varsity sport in the 2026-27 academic year. This decision follows the sport's recent recognition, which could lead to an official NCAA tournament by 2028. Four MEAC schools currently have club programs that may transition to varsity teams. The conference will also add women's golf in the coming season, further expanding opportunities for student-athletes.
