Memphis prepares for season opener at renovated Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium

Summary

Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium renovations are nearing completion, with the first home game scheduled for September 5, 2026, against Arkansas State. The $226.5 million project addresses long-standing concerns about the stadium's condition, identified as a barrier to conference realignment. Renovations included funding from the state of Tennessee and a substantial donation from Fred Smith. The Memphis Tigers football program, under new head coach Charles Huff, looks to benefit from the upgraded facilities as the team aims for continued success and potential membership in a higher-profile conference.
