What they're saying

For the past few months, as speculation increased about Bayley’s pro wrestling future, her pal Mercedes Moné has enjoyed teasing a possible reunion in AEW. During an interview with the UK’s Daily Star earlier this week in which she was promoting next weekend’s All In PPV in London’s Wembley Stadium, Moné had opportunity to tease a match with Bayley in AEW. She did use Bayley’s shoot name (Pam Martinez), but The CEO made no mention of the hypothetical clash with Davina Rose (Bayley’s pre-WWE nomme de wrestling) she’s posted in the past. Even though Bayley herself posted an AEW tease not long ago, Mercedes gives a standard non-answer when asked if she’ll ever share the ring with her “best friend in wrestling” again: “You never know in wrestling. That’s always a dream match for me — that is to have another match with her. She is one of my greatest opponents of all time. Of course, everybody knows one of our greatest matches together, [NXT TakeOver] Brooklyn. That really changed the way people viewed women’s wrestling. “But, yeah, it’s always a dream match for me. It’s always a dream match for me. So, you never know.” And right on cue, this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter has some of Dave Meltzer’s patented speculation that reads like a report if you’re not fully fluent in Meltzer-ese: As far as Bayley goes, the frequent mentions of her on Raw this week would indicate to me that they expect her back. If they believed she might be leaving, they would not mention her name. If Dave’s reading the WWE script tealeaves correctly, it sounds like there could have been a breakthrough in Bayley’s negotiations with her current employer. If that’s right, well… we’d advise her to speak to Romeo Malverde, fka Santos Escobar… There are other explanations for why Moné doesn’t go all out pushing the “Bayley to AEW” narrative, namely that that interview may just not have been the place for it. But Bayley working things out with WWE would be one of them. In the comments below, let us know what you make of any or all of that.
