Mercedes plans performance upgrades for engine units during current Formula 1 season

Mercedes High Performance Powertrains intends to implement performance upgrades to its power units following competitive gains made by Ferrari. The planned updates include a new turbocharger, with additional components expected to follow under the current ADUO framework. Drivers utilizing Mercedes engines, including customer teams, will have access to these parts as they become available. Implementation of these components may result in grid penalties if drivers exceed their permitted engine component limits. George Russell faces an inevitable grid penalty as Mercedes plans to replace his power unit with a fifth version later this season. Despite rumors, Mercedes has not scheduled an engine change for Russell at the upcoming race in Baku. Andrea Kimi Antonelli remains within the limit of four turbochargers despite current grid penalties for other engine parts.
