Mets consider pursuing Tarik Skubal in upcoming free agency

Summary

The New York Mets are evaluating their options to pursue pitcher Tarik Skubal in free agency as they look to overhaul a disappointing 2026 season. General manager David Stearns's historical reluctance to commit to high-dollar contracts for starting pitchers may prevent them from securing Skubal. Despite past failures with big contracts, owner Steve Cohen's financial resources could make a deal possible. The Mets announced that Skubal's situation will hinge on changes in their operational strategy regarding pitching acquisitions this offseason.
