Mets owner Cohen discusses Stearns' role ahead of Padres game

Steve Cohen, owner of the New York Mets, addressed the media before a game against the San Diego Padres on August 19, acknowledging the team's disappointing 2026 season. Despite the Mets being favorites for the National League East, they currently sit in last place. Cohen criticized President of Baseball Operations David Stearns for risky roster changes, mentioning the challenges of integrating new players. While supporting Stearns, who is under contract until 2028, Cohen suggested a focus on smarter, youth-oriented moves in the upcoming offseason. The Mets have also dealt with key player injuries, including Jorge Polanco, who will undergo season-ending surgery.
