Michael Wilhoite returns to Broncos after arrest and firing

The Denver Broncos have rehired linebackers coach Michael Wilhoite, who was previously fired in 2025 after being arrested for an incident at Denver International Airport. Charges against him were downgraded and eventually dropped when he entered a diversion program. Wilhoite still faces a civil lawsuit from the officer involved in the incident, which is set for a jury trial in March 2027. Broncos coach Sean Payton has expressed confidence in Wilhoite's coaching abilities. Wilhoite's return comes at a time when the team is addressing issues with linebacker Jonathon Cooper, who is facing legal troubles of his own.
