Michigan basketball coach Mike Boynton Jr. updates status of injured players

Michigan basketball coach Mike Boynton Jr. provided updates on several players sidelined during the team’s recent European exhibition tour. Freshman guard Brandon McCoy Jr. will miss the 2026-27 season after suffering a torn ACL in the final exhibition game against Mega Superbet. Center Moustapha Thiam missed the remainder of the trip after sustaining a minor lower right leg injury in the first game. Redshirt sophomore Ricky Liburd remained out due to a non-invasive procedure for a hip impingement but is expected to participate in the upcoming practice season. Forward Jalen Reed and Lincoln Cosby also missed the overseas exhibition games while rehabbing previous injuries. Boynton noted that the absence of these players provided increased playing time and developmental opportunities for other roster members.
