Michigan defeats Western Michigan following a controversial late video replay

Michigan defeated Western Michigan 13-12 on September 5 following a disputed officiating decision that extended the game. After an initial touchdown pass from Bryce Underwood was ruled incomplete as time expired, a video review overturned the call. Officials determined a Western Michigan player had touched the ball while out of bounds with one second remaining. This ruling granted Michigan one final play, during which Underwood connected with JJ Buchanan for the winning touchdown. The Big Ten conference released a statement justifying the reversal through a sync process used for all stadium cameras. Underwood finished the game 12-of-22 for 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, recording a 31.4 passing grade from PFF.
