Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood addresses comments regarding his starting job status

Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood said he was unaware of recent comments made by head coach Kyle Whittingham regarding his security as the starting quarterback. Whittingham stated Monday that no player's position on the roster is infinite and that the team needs to show improvement across all areas. Underwood struggled in the season opener against Western Michigan, completing 12 of 22 passes for 170 yards with two turnovers before throwing a decisive 47-yard touchdown pass. The sophomore quarterback identified six major plays from that game that he intends to refine during practice this week. Michigan prepares for its upcoming game against No. 11 Oklahoma following the victory over Western Michigan. Underwood was a high-profile recruit who signed a reported four-year, $12 million name, image and likeness deal prior to his freshman season in 2025.
