MID-American Conference to revise men's basketball tournament format in 2027

The Mid-American Conference will revise the format for the 2027 men's basketball tournament, according to a report from Jon Rothstein on August 12. The new structure will allow the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds to receive byes into the semifinal round, while the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds will receive byes into the quarterfinal round. This decision follows the Miami RedHawks' perfect regular season in 2025-26, where they were eliminated in the opening round of the conference tournament. The Akron Zips secured the MAC's NCAA tournament automatic bid after defeating Toledo. Miami also earned an at-large bid, winning in the First Four before falling to Tennessee.
