Middlesex contests ECB overseas player ruling regarding captain Leus Du Plooy

Middlesex is challenging an England and Wales Cricket Board ruling that classifies captain Leus Du Plooy as an overseas player. The club announced that Du Plooy will leave at the end of the season to pursue international cricket with South Africa, a decision that triggered an immediate change in his domestic status. Middlesex previously believed this reclassification would only apply to the next season, but the ECB notified the county of the change on Monday. Because the notice arrived after the deadline for registering overseas players, Du Plooy was excluded from the selection for the current County Championship Division Two match at Durham. Director of cricket Alan Coleman stated that the club is consulting with legal teams and the Professional Cricketers' Association to reach a resolution that would allow Du Plooy to play for the remainder of the season.
