Mike Burrows may rejoin Houston Astros rotation when rosters expand Tuesday

Right-hander Mike Burrows is under consideration to return to the Houston Astros active roster when major-league teams expand to 28 players on Tuesday. Manager Joe Espada confirmed the team is evaluating options for the starting rotation as they manage a heavy stretch of 13 games without an off-day. Burrows has been recovering from elbow neuritis since July and recently completed three Triple-A rehab starts, totaling a 2.03 ERA across 13 ⅓ innings. The club has not yet named a starter for Tuesday's game, leaving the potential return of Burrows as a possibility to help stabilize the pitching staff. The Astros also hold an additional position player spot and are weighing candidates from their Triple-A roster including several outfielders and an infielder. Pitching consultant Brent Strom is currently working with the staff to address the team's ongoing rotation needs.
