Mikey Lewis replaces Jake Connor in England Rugby League World Cup squad

Summary

Leeds Rhinos half-back Jake Connor has been omitted from England's Rugby League World Cup squad, with Hull KR's Mikey Lewis selected instead. The decision follows a strong domestic season for Connor, who was the 2025 Super League Man of Steel and led the league in assists. Despite expectations, Lewis's performance convinced head coach Brian McDermott to choose him alongside George Williams and Harry Smith as half-back options. Connor's exclusion marks another disappointment after missing the squad for last autumn's home series against Australia. The full England squad was announced amidst much debate on half-back selections.
