Miles Russell ranks T5 in U.S. Amateur stroke play first round

Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach finished tied for fifth with a score of 3-under 67 during the first round of the U.S. Amateur stroke play qualifying on August 10 at Philadelphia Country Club. He is just two shots behind co-leaders William Lisle and Finn Koelle, both who shot 65. Play was suspended due to darkness, and 41 players will complete their rounds on August 11. Tyler Mawhinney of Fleming Island ended his day at 2-over 72, after recovering in the late holes. The top 64 players after the second round will advance to match play starting August 12.
