Milwaukee Tennis Classic celebrates 50 years of collegiate competition

The Milwaukee Tennis Classic enters its 50th year of operation, with the tournament scheduled to run from September 11-13 at the Western Racquet Club and Nicolet Tennis Center. Founded in 1975 by Chas Mulcahy and former Marquette men’s basketball coach Al McGuire, the event stands as the longest-running collegiate tennis tournament in the United States. While the tournament did not take place in 2020 due to the pandemic, it has maintained a consistent history of housing players with local families. Organizers have adapted to the modern of college athletics by incorporating name, image and likeness deals into their operations. The tournament continues to emphasize community involvement through local scholarship programs and youth initiatives. Chas Mulcahy remains active in the tournament at 88 years old and continues to advocate for the financial support of non-revenue collegiate sports.
