Minnesota Gophers face tight end changes ahead of 2026 season

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are set to replace their top three tight ends ahead of the 2026 season. Although the tight end position was underutilized last season, featuring in only 17% of Gopher receptions, new contributors including Pierce Walsh, Jacob Simpson, Julian Johnson, and Kaden Helms will compete for increased roles. The 2025 starters had a combined 43 receptions, 206 yards, and four touchdowns. Despite the departures, there is potential for growth in the tight end group, especially with younger players, but analysts suggest the team may experience a downgrade from last season's performance.
