Minnesota head coach Niko Medved considers return of Cade Tyson

Minnesota men's basketball head coach Niko Medved stated that the return of former leading scorer Cade Tyson for the 2026-27 season remains a possibility. Tyson, a forward who averaged 19.6 points and 5.4 rebounds last season, is currently navigating legal challenges regarding fifth-year eligibility for athletes from the high school class of 2022. While a federal court previously granted a class-wide injunction, a subsequent stay by the Tenth Circuit complicated the eligibility status for players in this cohort. Medved indicated the team would be willing to manage roster complications to accommodate Tyson if legal clearance is obtained. Minnesota currently has 15 players on its roster, the maximum allowed by NCAA rules. The Gophers are scheduled to play their first exhibition game against Omaha on October 15.
